
During the fiscal year ending September 30, 2024, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provided a total of $89,131,162 in benefits and services to 5,951 veterans residing in Lenawee County. This total includes $41,039,393 in direct expenditures and $48,091,769 in indirect expenditures, reflecting the continued impact of veterans’ benefits on the local economy.
Of the direct expenditures, Lenawee County veterans received:
- $37,911,425 in compensation and pension
- $2,956,086 in dependency and indemnity compensation (DIC) and survivors’ pension
- $171,882 in insurance benefits
The indirect expenditures included:
- $45,802,203 for medical care
- $1,937,209 for education and vocational rehabilitation benefits
- $328,774 for memorial benefits
- $15,304 for specially adapted housing, automobile, and adaptive equipment grants
- $8,279 for loan guaranty programs
These funds represent a vital contribution to the Lenawee County economy and are part of the $295,476,650,197 billion the VA distributed across Michigan to support 486,268 veterans and their dependents statewide during FY 2024.
More than half of all VA expenditures are paid directly to veterans and their families. The remainder supports VA health care programs across Michigan’s 5 VA Medical Centers, 32 Outpatient and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), and 11 Vet Centers.
