Transportation

The Department of Veterans Affairs offers free transportation through our volunteers for veterans to and from their medical appointments at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAMC) in our DAV shuttle van. The service is available for all veterans who have no other means to get to their medical appointments.

Please note:

  • Patients need to be ambulatory and able to enter and exit the van unassisted. No wheelchairs and/or oxygen tanks.
  • The van leaves from the rear parking lot of the Human Services Building in Adrian and returns there. We do not pick-up or drop-off at veterans’ homes, however we do have pick-up locations along route to the VAMC. 
  • Patients are responsible for scheduling VAMC appointments between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. (morning appointments are encouraged) Monday – Friday.  
  • Give us advance notice, one (1) week to three (3) months, of the need to receive a ride to/from the VAMC.
  • A spouse/guest may accompany a patient on the van if space is available.  You must notify us when someone is traveling with you to the VAMC (space is limited).
  • Patients are responsible for calling/checking with the Veterans Affairs office the one (1) day before their prearranged/scheduled ride to confirm the time that the van will depart.  Failure to confirm your ride may result in not getting transported.
  • Patients utilizing the van ARE NOT eligible to receive reimbursement for travel expenses from the VAMC.

Volunteer Opportunity

We are always looking for individuals who are interested in volunteering one or two days a month to drive veterans to their appointments at the VAMC! VA Volunteer Requirements include having a valid driver’s license, a background check, and a physical (at no cost). Please call us at 517-264-5335 for more information.

Another Option

Transportation to VAMC is also available leaving from the Adrian VA Clinic at 770 Riverside Avenue, Adrian, MI. Reservations are made through the VA Transportation Navigation Hub by calling 877-838-5438. Requests must be made at least three business days prior to your appointment.
