Residents can recycle tires, solid foams, packaging materials and batteries
The community collection event will take place the following weekend from 8 a.m. until noon May 20 at the Lenawee County Fair & Event Grounds in Adrian; enter HANKE LANE off of Siena Heights Drive. At this event, residents can recycle tires, solid foams, packaging materials and batteries. They also can securely shred documents.
Proof of residency is required for tire recycling. Clean passenger vehicle, light pickup and motorcycle tires will be accepted with a 10-tire limit per vehicle. The costs will be $1 per motorcycle or small tire and $2 per passenger vehicle or light pickup tire. The Lenawee County Solid Waste Department reserves the right to reject any tire that may damage recycling or processing equipment.
Battery recycling fees are $3.50 a pound for alkaline/silver oxide; $3 each for drill/cordless tool packs; 75 cents each for lithium cell batteries; and 25 cents each for lithium coin, NI-CD, NI-MH and LiFE04 cell batteries.
There are NO fees associated with solid foams (egg cartons, foam coolers, packing material), reusable packing materials (bubble wrap, air pillows, packing peanuts), or your shreddable documents!
Additionally, the Lenawee County Recycling Center drop-off site at 307 River St. in Adrian remains open daily for Lenawee County residents to recycle cardboard, plastics and glass as well as tin and other metals. The Lenawee County solid waste department also urges residents to check with their local municipalities for other recycling opportunities this spring.
Proper disposal of these items is essential for the health and safety of residents, the environment and the community. By providing residents an economical and easy way to properly dispose of these items, the Lenawee County solid waste department can better manage illegal dumping throughout Lenawee County .
The tire collection is partially funded by a grant from the Scrap Tire Cleanup Project through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, the release said.
