The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Recommends COVID-19 Booster Shots
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for eligible individuals: https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/p1021-covid-booster.html.
Eligibility groups for Pfizer and Moderna vaccine. The following individuals are eligible for a booster shot 6 months or more after their second dose:
- Anyone 65 and older.
- Anyone 18 and older with a medical condition that increases their risk of severe COVID-19 illness such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and others.
- Anyone 18 years or older who lives or works in a high-risk setting for being exposed to COVID-19 such as residents of congregate living facilities, health care workers, first responders, educators, childcare staff, food and agriculture workers, manufacturing workers, and others.
Eligibility groups for J&J vaccine booster include:
- All Johnson & Johnson recipients age 18 and older at least two months after their initial shot.
Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type they originally received and others may prefer to get a different booster. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
If you have questions about whether or not you should receive a booster dose, please discuss it with your medical provider. You may receive your booster shot at locations providing COVID-19 vaccinations, including pharmacies, some healthcare providers and at the Lenawee County Health Department. You do not need to receive your booster from the same provider where you received your original vaccination. Information regarding locations offering COVID-19 vaccinations in Lenawee County can be found at www.lenawee.mi.us.
Please bring your vaccine card or copy of your record when you get your booster dose.
