ADRIAN, MI – The Lenawee County Health Department is pleased to report they have provided over 1200 individuals with their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds this week with the help of many community partners. With each dose of vaccine given, we move one step closer to defeating this pandemic in Lenawee County. Thus far, almost 10% of those residents age 16 and older have been vaccinated in Lenawee County.

“We have moved the vaccination clinics at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds from the Agriculture Building to the Merchants Building. This will allow for a larger space to vaccinate more individuals as our supply increases,” stated Martin Marshall, Lenawee County Administrator.

As the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services increases the number of individuals eligible for vaccination and allocates more vaccine, Lenawee County is prepared to ramp up the number of vaccination appointments available.

We are fully prepared to increase our appointments at the Lenawee County Fairground vaccination clinic site,” stated Craig Tanis, Lenawee County Emergency Management Coordinator. “All we need is vaccine, and we expect those supplies to increase throughout the Spring.”

Lenawee County has made the decision to prioritize vaccinating those especially vulnerable over the next few weeks. While the State of Michigan is opening up eligibility to more groups, Lenawee County will be focused on vaccinating those over the age of 65 years old. Lenawee County has nearly 20,000 individuals over the age of 65 and of those only 45% have received at least one dose of vaccine.

“We have a large population of older adults in Lenawee County,” stated Martha Hall, Lenawee County Health Officer. “We’ve heard from many in our community that are older than 75 that still have not been vaccinated and have been unable to secure an appointment. Our leadership is determined to make vaccinating those individuals a priority next week.”

Any individual older than 75 that has been unable to secure a vaccine appointment is urged to call the Lenawee County vaccine hotline at 517-265-4501 to be placed on a priority list.
