ADRIAN, MI – Several community organizations partnered with the Michigan National Guard to provide a vaccine clinic today, Monday, January 18, 2020 at the Lenawee County Fairgrounds. With the help of the Lenawee County Health Department staff, Michigan National Guard, and volunteers from the community, Lenawee County was able to vaccinate more than 100 individuals an hour. They expect to vaccinate 975 individuals by the conclusion of the vaccine clinic.
Approximately, 4,362 Lenawee County residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine to date. Thousands of residents have registered with the Lenawee County Health Department to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but many are still waiting to schedule an appointment due to a lack of available vaccine doses.
“The demand for the vaccine is high in Lenawee County,” said Lenawee County Health Officer Martha Hall. “We are working as fast as we can to distribute the vaccine as it becomes available from the State of Michigan. Unfortunately, our requests have only been partially filled and we continue to wait on allocation from the state to be able to schedule more appointments for our residents.”
Residents are discouraged from calling the Lenawee County Fairgrounds about the vaccine clinics, as they are solely providing the facility and do not have access to scheduling or vaccine information.
Lenawee County officials estimate that there are approximately 30,000 people in Lenawee County now eligible for the first dose of vaccine. Unfortunately, the vaccine is available in limited quantities at this point.
“Today’s clinic at the fairgrounds was a great first step in ramping up our vaccine distribution in Lenawee County,” said Martha Hall. “Residents can expect to see those numbers increase in the coming weeks and months, but please continue to be patient because it’s all based on the vaccine doses made available to us. The best way to ensure you can schedule an appointment when more doses become available is to register on our website.”
People are encouraged to assist family and friends without internet access or email with the online registration and appointment process if possible.
