Protection is ensured if you had the measles (anyone born before 1957 is considered protected) or have received two doses of the measles vaccines. The Lenawee County Health Department offers measles vaccinations call 517.264.5226 option 2 to schedule an appointment.
Measles are highly contagious; it is spread through the air and by person-to-person contact.
If you have been exposed you should:
- Call your doctor for advice you may need vaccination or other treatment. The office can check your medical history for vaccination status
- Know that unvaccinated individuals must get vaccinated within 72 hours exposure to prevent disease
- Know that symptoms can take 21 days to show
- Stay away from others until your doctor says it is okay
The measles vaccine is highly effective and very safe. The Lenawee County Health Department urges all of our community members to be protected , make sure all family members are fully vaccinated.
