Services Provided
The Lenawee Department on Aging's mission is "To provide quality services that enable older adults to live with independence and dignity."
The Department on Aging is a department of the Lenawee County Board of Commissioners. The County Commission appoints a 15-member board of directors who, along with the department director, are responsible for the operation of the agency.

Information & Resources
The Lenawee Department on Aging has staff available to help older adults and caregivers locate services and resources. This can include questions about home care, housing, long term care housing, and unmet needs.

Chore Program
Lenawee Department on Aging feels that home safety is key in helping older adults remain in their homes. A small grant allows for minor home repairs to impact the safety of older adults. Volunteer labor allows our funds to assist with additional repairs. Some of our projects include grab bars to help prevent falls and handrails for stairs.

The Lenawee Department on Aging is a non-profit organization. LDA always accepts financial contributions to honor or remember a friend, family member or loved one. Consideration for memorial contributions is much appreciated. Our mission statement is " To provide quality services that enable older adults to live with independence and dignity."
Home Delivered Meals
Persons 60 years of age or older who are unable to prepare their own meals and due to physical or other reasons are unable to go out , may receive noon time meals delivered to their home. Eligible persons include those who need meals temporarily but discontinue when their health improves or circumstances change. Developmentally disabled adult children living with eligible recipients of home delivered meals may also qualify.

Personal Care
Home Care Aides are available to assist eligible older adults (age 60+) with grooming/hygiene tasks which will help them maintain adequate daily living. These tasks include bathing and hair care.

Respite Care
Volunteer Respite Care is a service that provides up to four (4) hours per week of in-home companionship, supervision and/or assistance with basic activities of daily living. This service is available for mentally and/or physically disabled and frail persons, age 60 or older, to provide the primary caregiver with relief from their around-the-clock caregiving responsibilities.
ELIGIBILITY: Persons 60 years of age or older who require constant supervision and/or care. A primary caregiver must reside in the home.

No fee is charged for services, though contributions are encouraged so that Respite Care can be extended to others who are in need.

Volunteer Transportation
Volunteer drivers are available to transport Lenawee County, Michigan older adults to in-county and out-of-county non-emergency medical appointments. At least a week's notice is required.
No fee is charged for volunteer driver transportation, but contributions are encouraged so that services can be extended to others in need.

Commodities
The Lenawee Department on Aging is the local agency supporting the Community Action Agency of South Central Michigan's supplemental food distribution program. This program is for income qualified seniors. For more information about qualifications, call the Lenawee Department on Aging at 517-264-5280 or Community Action Agency of South Central Michigan at 1-877-422-2726.
Distribution site location is at First United Methodist Church - 1245 W. Maple Ave. Adrian, MI 49221.
Foster Grandparent Program
The Foster Grandparent Program provides meaningful volunteer placement, 20-30 hours per week, for eligible persons age 55 and over in Lenawee County, enabling them to render supportive person-to-person services to children, who have special or exceptional needs. The program offers an excellent opportunity for older persons to share their lifetime of experience with children in need of a supportive relationship. Academic degrees and occupational background are not considered when determining eligibility to be a Foster Grandparent, however income requirements must be met. The program looks for persons who enjoy being with children and have the ability to work with them on a personal level.
For their service, Foster Grandparents receive a $2.65 per hour tax-free stipend - one meal per day, reimbursement for transportation, and an annual physical. The main benefit is the satisfaction Foster Grandparents derive from helping their assigned children to develop. For a full job-description and eligibility requirements. click here.pdf

Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program (MMAP)
The MMAP Program is a free health-benefits counseling service for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, their families or caregivers. Our mission is to educate, advocate, counsel and empower people to make informed benefit decisions. MMAP Counselors are specialists trained in Medicare and Medicaid law and regulations, health insurance counseling and relevant insurance products. Their purpose is to serve you objectively and confidentially. Information can be given over the phone, by appointments or in the home, if one is homebound or has no transportation.
No fee is charged for this counseling service, however contributions are encouraged so that services can be extended to others in need.
A Counselor Can Assist In:
- Understanding doctor bills, hospital bills and Medicare Summary Notices.
- Understanding Medicare/Medicaid eligibility, enrollment, coverage, claims and appeals.
- Enrolling in Medicare Savings Programs.
- Reviewing your Medicare supplemental insurance needs, compare policies and pursue claims and refunds.
- Exploring long term care financing options, including long term care insurance.
- Identifying and reporting Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse.
- Reviewing and comparing Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C).
- Reviewing and comparing Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D).

Homemaker Assistance
Home Care Aides are available to assist eligible older adults (60+) with household activities, which help them maintain an adequate living environment. These tasks include mopping, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, laundry, and grocery shopping.
