Services

Forms of payment for services are cash or check (cash only for court fines).  A copy of a valid driver's license or state I.D. is required with all mail-in requests, when paying with a personal check.
  • Births: 1867 to present. Birth records are available only to the individual named on the birth record (registrant), the parents of the registrant, a legal guardian of the registrant, a legal representative of the registrant or an heir of the registrant. An heir is defined as any relative of a deceased individual. Heirs must supply the date and place of death of the registrant when requesting a copy. This policy is in accordance with MCL 333.2882.
  • Certified Copy/Additional: Certified copies cost $16, additional copies are $6 each.
  • Comments: Due to limited space and staffing, research is limited to the days and time listed above and to one-half hour increments if others are waiting. Space allows for two genealogists at one time.
  • Consolidated Court Cases: When cases are consolidated they keep their separate identities and parties to one action do not become parties to the other action. If you consolidate cases and choose to put multiple case header's and case numbers on one pleading this Court does require a copy for each file.
  • CPL Applicants: New applicants must complete a N.R.A. approved course, take the original N.R.A. certificate of training and completed application (except for signature) to the County Clerk's Office.   • DBA (Doing Business Under Assumed Name) Filing a DBA will protect your business name from being used by someone else in Lenawee County.  The fee for filing a DBA or dissolving a current DBA is $10.00.
  • Deaths: Death records are available from 1867 to present.
  • Divorce Kits: Circuit Court Clerk's Office is selling divorce kits. The cost for a kit is $50 with or without minor children.  We can not give any legal advice nor can we help you fill out the forms.
  • Divorces: 1853 to present, indexes only are available for the very early years.
  • Domestic Filings: A Friend of the court copy is required with all pleadings that involve minor children or spousal support, see court rule MCR 3.203(G).
  • Filings: All court filings must include the case title, file number, title of pleading, and judge's name, see court rule MCR 2.113.
  • Genealogy Research Hours: Genealogy research is available Tuesday - Friday, 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m.
  • Identification Requirements: Photo ID is required for Birth Records.
  • Marriages: Marriage records from 1853 to present are available.
  • Motions or Response to Motion: A judge's copy is required when filing an original motion, see court rule MCR 2.119(A)(2).
  • New Cases: New cases are filed in the order we receive them and it will take approximately 3 to 5 days to process.
  • Other Copy Fees: $1 per page (other than Birth, Death, or Marriage records). All mail requests require payment in advance.
  • Pleadings: We do not accept any pleadings by fax or email. We require you provide a self addressed, stamped envelope in order for us to return any pleadings. Pleading deadline - All pleadings must be filed by the Wednesday prior to the following week's hearing date or as otherwise directed by the judge or court rule MCR 2.119c.
  • Pretrial: When filing a new case with this court our judges require a pretrial be scheduled for the purpose of case flow management, see court rule MCR 2.401.
  • Search Fees: $10 per name. We can not do this over the phone for you or by e-mail. All requests must be submitted in writing with payment before the search will be done. Search fee only covers the search, copy cost is extra.
